The Krétakör’s latest project summarizes and continues to develop the organization’s experiences from the past 3 years. Crisis is the story of the Gát family: the three members of the family are presented in the parts through various genres of performing arts.

The first part consists of the dream-like journey / attempt to become a grownup of Balázs Gát. Balázs leaves his family to live a life of his own, but it’s hard for him to break free of his family and national ties. He gathers 12 volunteers in a foreign city to start his own revolution. His goal is simple: to experience freedom. The story is presented through cinematography, as an experimental feature film – the premier of which took place in Prague, as an installation presented in June, as part of the INTERSECTION event of the Prague Quadriennale.

II. RÉSZ: HÁLÁTLAN DÖGÖK

The second part presents the tale of the head of the family, the 45 year-old child psychiatrist, Gyula Gát, in the form of a chamber opera. The doctor specializes in domestic violence and the sexual abuse of children. One day, a new patient arrives at the clinic, Ádám, who’s charged with seven accounts of sexual abuse on children and murder. The doctor’s position as a medical expert is soon questioned by their conversation, which the patient slowly dominates.

The trilogy’s final part is the tale of the mother, Lilla Gát. The previously celebrated actress from the capital city is now working as a dedicated drama pedagogue in a village far from Budapest. Her surroundings take an aversion to her unique educational methods. The 20 student participants of the theatrical performance were chosen from a program announced amongst Hungarian Romanian drama groups organized with the involvement of the Osonó Theatre Workshop of Sepsiszentgyörgy, whilst the performance was created with a number of innovative theatre pedagogy methods.
